A Sharp Reminder is a new video training package, based on actual experiences, designed to trigger discussion about hand safety in the workplace and at home. It has been produced by Dr Ladd, together with Dr John Stanley, one of the worlds' leading hand surgeons. More than 70% of all workplace injuries are to the hands. A serious hand injury occurs every four minutes and 50,000 major hand injuries are reported each year. The financial and human costs resulting from injuries to the hands can be reduced by focusing attention on this important health and safety issue. Most serious hand injuries are preventable and all accidents must be taken seriously. Possible damage to nerves, blood vessels and tendons should never be under-estimated. The video is divided into four sections:

*The scope of the problem and the legal responsibilities of employers and employees
*The anatomy and complexity of the hand illustrated with the use of graphics
*A case study featuring Dr Richard Ladd's hand injury
*General safety recommendations and what to do in the event of an accident. WARNING:the video contains footage of hand injuries some viewers may find disturbing

To help individuals assess their working environment and introduce their own safety measures, a "Hand Safety Checklist" and a "Manager's Guide to Hand Safety", are supplied for use with the video.
